Our 12th Season on the Web

Clippers Advance To Date With Williams: Round one of the state tournament went pretty much as expected. FHS came out flying, scoring three times in the first period, and then held off an overmatched Brockton team the rest of the way, winning a 4-1 decision. The Clippers are now 13-5-2 on the year.

Their reward for the win, a date with Archbishop Williams, the team many think is the favorite to win the D1 South bracket. The Bishops are one of the best D1 teams going, and as FHS Head Coach Buddy Ferreira said after the game "we have our hands full."

Game time Sunday is 7:45 PM at Gallo Ice Arena.

Falmouth scored just over a minute into the first as Ben Tucker got his third of the season to make it a 1-0 game. Freshman Trevor Theroux netted his first-ever varsity goal midway through the period on a slapper from the point to make it 2-0. Sean Price then got his first of two at 10:08 for a 3-0 Falmouth lead after one.

Each team got one in the second. Brockton scored early, just 1:11 in, on a shot past a screened Bradon Moore (9 saves). Powers got that one right back for the Clippers about a minute later, accounting for the last goal of the game.

Here We Go:

The MIAA has finally released the brackets and your Clippers are the No. 5 team in the south, which is probably not where they wanted to be because the second round doesn't look that inviting. Round 1 sees FHS playing Brockton (7-11-2), a team that they should beat. BHS went 4-0 in the soft Big Three to get into the tourney. No offense to the Boxers, but they don't stack up to the rest of the field. The game is slated for Gallo on Thursday night at 7:45 PM.

No, it's the team waiting for FHS on Sunday that gives you pause, Archbishop Williams. FHS can skate with the Bishops, but the team from Braintree is explosive with the Boyle brothers leading the way. On the bigger Gallo ice surface that one will be a doozy to say the least, but if FHS can find a way to beat the Archies, Division I south is there for the taking.

Dragon Slayers: Five different Clippers scored and Brandon Moore stopped all 11 shots he faced as the Falmouth boys ripped Duxbury 5-0 tonight.

Leading 1-0 late in the first, on a shorthanded goal by Sean Williamson, Moore stoned Duxbury's Connor Doyle from point blank range with 20 seconds to go in the period. That led to a fast break by the Clippers that saw Sean Powers finish it off with his team-leading 12th of the season to make it a 2-0 game with six seconds left in the first.

It was all FHS from there, as the Clippers went on to outshoot the Dragons 43-11 for the game. Connor Megan netted an unassisted goal late in the second period. Aaron Orciuch and Ben Tucker added third period tallies as FHS improved to 12-5-3 for the year as they now await the brackets for the MIAA tournament.

Classic Day 2: Sorry for the late posting, but the old Scribe is under the weather and hasn't been feeling so well. Falmouth got hammered by Arlington Catholic in the second day of tournament play, losing 8-0. FHS will play against Duxbury on Thursday at 5.

Duxbury was a 4-1 loser to BC High. Archbishop Williams and Austin Prep advanced to the championship game, with the Bishops beating Waltham in a shootout 3-2, and AP beating Hingham, 2-1.

Classic, Day 1: Falmouth fell to Archbishop Williams in a truly entertaining hockey game last night, 5-2. FHS came out like gangbusters and had a 1-0 lead after one on a nice goal by Andrew Kelly, who backhanded in a pretty feed from Aaron Orciuch.

Archie's Mike Boyle as the man in the second period as the junior sniper scored a hat trick. He tied the game at 1 on a semi-break at 2:53. Falmouth regained the lead at 5:20 when Sean Powers scored during a scramble in front, but Boyle came back to score just 20 seconds later on a rebound and then 30 seconds after that to make it 3-2.

FHS looked gassed in the third as the Bishops added two more for the 5-2 win.

In other action, BC High looked like it had a laugher on its hands, but instead ended up embarrassed. The Eagles took a 5-0 lead in the first, only to lose 8-6. Austin Prep skated to a 4-1 win over Duxbury and Waltham stole a 2-0 game from Arlington Catholic.

Mondays's lineup.

BC High vs. Duxbury, 1 PM

Falmouth vs. Arlington Catholic, 3

Hingham vs. Austin Prep, 5 PM

Archie vs. Waltham, 7 PM

Tie: Sandwich High needed a win to keep alive its postseason hopes, but they didn't get it as the Falmouth Clippes knocked them out of contention by playing the Knights to a 1-1 deadlock tonight at the Ice Arena. Andrew Kelly scored 12 seconds into the game for the Clippers' lone strike, a one-timer off a feed from Sean Williamson that beat Pat Farrington through the five hole. Luke McCombs scored for the Knights 30 seconds into the second period, one-timing a feed from behind the net past Brandon Moore.

Both Moore and Farrington stole the show in the third period, with each keeper making a couple of brilliant stops to keep it tied up. SHS pulled the goal with 49 ticks to play to try to get the game-winner, but the FHS defense held tight. Williamson just missed putting FHS into the win column with a shot that just missed the vacant goal with 28 seconds left.

Next up is the Cape Cod Classic. The full schedule is available in the 09-10 info section. FHS plays the Archies at 7 PM Saturday night.

Game On: Yesterday's scheduled game against Sandwich, which was postponed by the killer storm, has been moved to today. The Clippers and Blue Knights hit the ice at 6:10 PM immediately following the girls' game against Scituate. If you're able, get there early to support the ladies as they need to run the table to make the state tourney.

Eagles Grounded: Junior Andrew Kelly had a four-point night, scoring a hat trick and an assist to lead the Falmouth Clippers to a 5-2 win over Plymouth North High School on Saturday night.

The Clippers dominated from the get- go, but still found themselves in a battle at the end, despite out-shooting the Eagles by nearly a 3-to-1 margin for the game, 45-18. The game was knotted midway into the third period before FHS got the eventual game-winner off the stick of defenseman Justin Taylor. Sean Powers won a faceoff to the left of the North goalie, crept down low, and saw that he had no shot. Instead of taking a pointless swipe, he got the puck back to Taylor in the high slot for a slapper that beat the goalie to the stick side to give FHS a 3-2 lead.

The Clippers would add two empty-netters in the final minute, one from Powers and another from Kelly.

The first period was all kinds of crazy up-and-down action. FHS outshot the Eagles, 12-5, but the game went to the locker rooms tied at 2-2. North got the first goal of the game, at 6:50, on a snap shot that beat Brandon Moore through the five-hole. FHS then got that one back about three minutes later, at 9:47. Zack Zaino skated it out of the FHS zone, on the right wing side, and hit Sean Williamson near the PN blue line. Williamson crossed a bouncing pass for Aaron Orciuch in the slot and puck bounced off Orciuch's stick to Kelly on the left side. Kelly ripped a wrister by the goalie to knot the game at 1-1.

On the first line's next shift they struck again to give FHS a temporary 2-1 lead. The goal was about as pretty as they come as Orciuch sent the puck down low behind the net and Williamson got to it, in stride, and centered it from behind for Kelly, who blasted it from the doorstep for his second of the night.

The lead didn't last long, though. The FHS defense got caught too high, which allowed the Eagles to walk off the wall for a 2-on-1 at 13:34, knotting the game up again.

FHS has one league game, left on Wednesday night againt Sandwich at the Ice Arena. It will be the third meeting between the rivals, with each team having taken one win to this point.

Back On Track: Tyler Hatch netted his first-ever hat trick to help lead the Falmouth boys over D-Y tonight, 6-1. Hatch scored Falmouth's first goal and the last two as FHS blew out the Dolphins. Connor McCarthy assisted on all three of those goals.

Hatch got the first one just 2:35 into the game, starting a stretch that saw FHS score four times over three minutes. Pat Kerr followed suit, and then Aaron Orciuch and Sean Williamson got in the fun to make it 4-0. D-Y got one back before the end of the period, but did not score again.

Hatch netted his other two in the third.

Matt Montella returned to the net for the Clippers, making his second start of the year. He made 11 saves in the win.

Next up for the Clippers is a game with Marshfield on Saturday night at 7 at the Falmouth Ice Arena.

Two In A Row: Coach Buddy Ferreira won't blame injuries for his team's slump, but the shorthanded Clippers dropped their second straight -- after having gone undefeated over their first 10 games -- Saturday night at the Falmouth Ice Arena, losing to Plymouth South for the first time since 2001. South scored twice in the third period to take a 4-2 win after out-shooting FHS 39-26 for the night.

After playing a scoreless first, and a 2-2 second, South got the only goal that mattered in the third period  at the 9:34 mark. FHS forward Sean Williamson tried to break out of his own end, and made it into the neutral zone, when Mason Yates came off the South bench, stole  the puck and then fed a streaking Tom Colbert, who sniped one to the top shelf for the game-winner. South added an empty-netter with 55 seconds left.

Both teams had chances early, but neither lit the lamp in the opening 15 minutes. In the second period the Clippers struck first when Andrew Kelly chipped in a feed from Sean Powers for a power play goal at 2:47.

South came back with two goals in 63 seconds to get the lead. Yates got the first one, following his own rebound and beating Brandon Moore to the far post. Colbert then reported the second one, getting another one on a weak side rebound.

FHS tied it two minutes later on a great play by Williamson. The FHS forward picked up a loose puck along the right wing wall and flew by the defenders, going in alone against Stefan Gustafson, who he faked out beautifully to make it a 2-2 game.

FHS visits D-Y Wednesday night.
